New Happenings
Thus far, this has been a successful year for Concerned Citizens four Our Youth,
Inc. During the last calendar year, we served 74 at-risk youth and their
families. We are again growing both in size and in community involvement.
Concerned Citizens for Our Youth, Inc. has exciting plans for our future in
improving our communities.
Beacon House
One of the programs administered at Concerned Citizens for Our Youth, Inc. is the Beacon House--a residential, therapeutic facility. With a dedicated staff including a certified teacher and licensed social workers, the Beacon House facilitates mental, social and academic success through providing a stable environment, proper nutrition, and access to a number of resources. These include the Adam Bishop Center, medical facilities, dental and vision screenings, academic tutoring, and any other needed service. Our staff, in addition, takes every possible opportunity to create learning opportunities in the areas of social and living skills.

Murphy Shelter After-School Day Treatment Program
A second program operating under CCFOY is the Murphy Shelter After School Day Treatment Program, which is an ongoing collaboration between Concerned Citizens for Our Youth, Inc. and the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center.
To benefit children ranging in age from ten to fifteen, there is a staff dedicated to delivering preventative services for children meeting preset admission requirements. All children receive services that include but are not limited to educational support, in which each child receives individualized school and homework assistance; individual, group, family, and recreational therapy, in which a licensed therapist works with the children individually, in small groups, and with their families to develop progressive and positive improvements in the life of each child; and PATHS, which is a seven volume program dedicated to teaching the children daily basic living skills ranging from anger management to healthy lifestyle choices.
Running four days per week for three hours each day, the staff works in concert with one another to make this yet another success story for each child and for our community as a whole. After all…children are the reward of life.
